Experimenting and business related methods of teaching are emphasized in the programme. Most of the teaching is project-oriented, i.e. each subject area is dealt with through an interdisciplinary project, where all teaching is targeted towards the project. To ensure that the contents of the study are as relevant and close to professional practice as possible, project assignments will often be based on authentic cases from industry. The four exams of the programme vary between individual tests and interdisciplinary group projects with written and oral exams.
We are continuously collaborating with a number of companies to ensure that the Design Technologist programme is up to date and relevant to the fashion and lifestyle industry.
Projects involving companies is an important part of the education. The company gives a presentation to students about the company in general and a specific problem/issue that is subsequently subject for students’ project work. Final feedback is given by lecturers and representatives for the company.
For their final project all students are encouraged to collaborate with a relevant company.
During first semester students acquire an understanding of the entire process of designing, producing and marketing fashion products.
From second semester students continue on one of three streams: Design, Sourcing or Marketing.
On third semester students do 10 weeks of internship in a company relevant to the student’s chosen stream.
Second half of fourth semester consists of a final written report based on a company specific problem. An oral examination is held based on the report and can be supported by a product created by the student.
Study projects are always related to industry practice and is often carried out in collaboration with a company.
Projects are either based on the student’s stream (design, sourcing or marketing) or interdisciplinary. All projects are done in groups except for the final project that is individual.
